National Defense Committee

The National Defense Committee was established in 1926 to assist members in carrying out the patriotic, education, and historical objectives of the National Society and to promote an enlightened public opinion. It has always advocated a strong American military defense. The committee publishes material in support of these positions.

ROTC – NEW PROCEDURE

ROTC falls under the National Defense Committee.  There is no longer an ROTC State Chairman.  Chapter ROTC Chairmen will order medals online through the DAR Store.  IMPORTANT:  We now have the chapter ROTC awards on a list online entitled State Youth Awards List. Please check the ROTC units or Sea Cadet units listed to ensure that all is correct.  If updating is needed please send updates to: webmaster@californiadar.org.    Please check the information listed for your chapter as soon as possible so the list can be corrected or updated.

National Defender

The National Defender is published monthly, September through May, and is available through download on the DAR Members’ Web Site.  It contains items of national interest for use at chapter meetings.  Daughters are encouraged to submit editorials or letters for inclusion in the National Defender.  A National contest is held annually for the best National Defense editorial or letter to the editor by a state or chapter chairman or chapter members.  The winners will be recognized at Continental Congress.  See the National Committee Web page for more information.

Chapters are encouraged to give a three-minute National Defense report at every chapter business meeting.  A full chapter meeting program on National Defense is also encouraged.
