Chapter Chatter: Santa Margarita Celebrates Constitution Week at Mission San Luis Rey

Members of the Santa Margarita Chapter, Daughters of the American
Revolution, celebrated Constitution Day, September 17, 2020, by ringing bells at 1 pm PDT in collaboration with Daughters around the world.

Member, Janet LaGrasta, had made arrangements with the Mission San Luis Rey for a small group to meet and ring a bell. Gathering first for a picnic lunch were Vice President General, Adele Lancaster, Honorary Chapter Regent, Wanda Prosser, Past Chapter Regents, Alida Woodward and Charla Boodry, Chapter Treasurer, Jacquie Berzins, and Prosser’s husband, Allen. First Vice Regent, Kellie Stafford , joined the group a bit later.

Unfortunately, Regent Laura Horn was at the orthopedic doctor with a broken wrist, and Janet, who had made the arrangements, was pinned in her driveway by large machinery repairing her street.

Members met with Linda Cassee, Marketing Director for the
Mission, who led them to the inner courtyard where 1st Vice Regent Stafford and Vice President General, Lancaster, rang the 1809 bell while the other members rang small ones. We were very honored to be able to go into the inner courtyard, the private garden of the friars who live there, and perform the ringing.

Please note – All members wore masks except for the two at the time while taking the picture.
