Chapter Chatter: Santa Clara Chapter Welcomes New Members

Santa Clara Chapter recently welcomed Margaret Williams as a new member and Margaret came with a bonus, six additional members!

Margaret and her sister Barbara each joined with their daughters Laurie and Jennifer, as well as their niece Kristine. Then, when Margaret found an additional marriage certificate and wanted it included in DAR’s database, she learned the only way to do that was through a new member application; it was time for daughter Heidi to join. Why stop there? Granddaughter Aubrey’s application is now in the works. Not all members live in the Santa Clara area so we will be helping some of them find a local home chapter.

Santa Clara welcomed a special guest at their September meeting. Mr. Thomas Brink joined the virtual meeting at the invitation of his niece and chapter member Suzi Logan. The chapter was proud to award Mr. Brink with the DAR Certificate of Valor in honor of his military service in WWII. Mr. Brink served in the South Pacific Theater and fought in the battles of Okinawa and Peleliu among other service.

Mr. Brink, more fondly known as Uncle Tommy, is a genealogist and is responsible for Suzi being verified as a DAR member with the assistance of Isabelle Long. Regent Nancy Hughes thanked Tommy for bringing Suzi to DAR and for his military service. We hope to have Mr. Brink join us again to share his experiences.
