Chapter Chatter: Del Norte Chapter Supports “Veterans’ Resource Day”

Del Norte Chapter, a staunch supporter of local Veterans activities, participated in “Veterans Resource Day” event at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Crescent City, on Friday, February 21, 2020. The annual event was sponsored by the Del Norte County Veterans Service Office. There were participants from northern California and southern Oregon, demonstrating helps available to veterans. A free lunch was also served. Del Norte Chapter members, Regent Liz Freeman, Jackie Henry-Ross, and Shari Ortega manned the Del Norte Chapter table during the four hours of participation.

It was a cooperative effort with the Chapter members; those who were not available to attend sent cookies, helped prepare the props and assisted in any way needed. With our 21 member Chapter, this is the type of endeavor we really enjoy, not labor intensive, and only a minimum number required to be in attendance, but great visibility, community service, and one-on-one dealings with the vets.

Del Norte Chapter had plenty of fresh-baked cookies for the vets, while we promoted “Wreaths Across America”; D2 and cleaning monuments & headstones; and Constitution Week. We gave away Vietnam War Commemorative
pins to Vietnam vets; DAR information; book-markers and Pocket Constitutions. The mixed crowd was interested in DAR, what type of group we are, and consequently, we had a number of inquiries about membership.  Del Norte Chapter spent a positive time with the veterans, putting action to our “Service to Veterans” commitment.
