Chapter Chatter: Arrowhead Valley Chapter Honors DAR Good Citizens

Arrowhead Valley Chapter held their annual DAR Good Citizen Award program on February 14, 2020. This year’s program featured students from Redlands High School and Yucaipa High School. Program Chair Cheryl Larick introduced this year’s award winners, Ashley Elias and Ryan Grinnals.

Chapter members listened with pride while Ashley and Ryan read their award winning essays on the topic “Our American Heritage and our responsibility for preserving it. You and your peers are our nation’s leaders of tomorrow. How would you energize America’s youth to fully engage as effective citizens? Why is that important?” Following their presentations, Larick presented each student with a NSDAR Good Citizens Pin and Certificate, wallet card and a modest monetary gift from Arrowhead Valley Chapter NSDAR.

The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest was created in 1934 and is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. These accomplished students represent diverse talents and interests from community activities to athletics, and possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism; they are selected by their teachers and peers.
