Chapter Chatter: Lake Tahoe Chapter Hosts Wreaths Across America

On December 14, 2019, Lake Tahoe Chapter members conducted the first Wreaths Across America ceremony ever to be held in the greater Lake Tahoe Basin. The ceremony, held at happy Homestead Cemetery, began at 9:00 am with a moment of silence. The cemetery in the small community of South Lake Tahoe, is the final resting place of 598 military veterans and two first responders killed in the line of duty.

Ceremony participants included Regent Sally Holcombe, Vice Regent Rosemary Manning, Chaplain Dawn Hill, DAR Service for Veterans Chair Karen Borges, Conservation Chair Carrie Champness and Historic Preservation Chair Cyndy Brown-Carlson.

Other participants included members of American Legion Post #795 and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, firefighters from the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department, the cemetery’s Director, a Gold Star Mother from South Lake Tahoe, a bagpiper and a vocal soloist.
