Chapter Chatter: John Greenleaf Whittier Participates in American Flag Retirement Program

The Whittier Public Library has announced that it is honored to be participating in the American Flag Retirement Program in partnership with the John Greenleaf Whittier Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The program, initiated by DAR Member Shiryl Boerlin, provides a receptacle located in the lobby of the Central Library every Friday where tattered and torn American flags can be deposited. The flags will be collected by a Girl Scout troop who will properly retire them. Shiryl started the Tattered and Torn American Flag Collection in Whittier over fifteen years ago.
