Chapter Chatter: Jose Maria Amador Chapter Members Honor National DAR Day of Service and Bestow a Community Service Award

The Jose Maria Amador Chapter participated in several projects honoring the National DAR Day of Service. The events took place on Thursday, October 10, 2019.

Early in the day, eight ladies served lunch at the local Senior Center. Working with the non-profit Open Heart Kitchen, the ladies worked as waitresses, dishwashers, busgirls and food line servers. The ladies enjoyed chatting with the seniors and brightening their day. Later in the day, another group of eight ladies got together and did patriotic rock painting. These patriotically painted rocks will be put in the garden of the Livermore VA Hospital. Great job ladies on your busy Days of Service!

In keeping with the Day of Service, the chapter bestowed the Community Service Award to Kirstin Litz of Pleasanton, CA at their October 12th chapter meeting. Kirstin is the Board Chair of the HERS Breast Cancer Foundation and has also volunteered with the local Dress A Girl around the World, Chemo Care Ministry, Valley Humane Society, Sandra J Wing Healing Therapies, Relay for Life and several other local philanthropic organizations.

Kirstin spoke to the chapter about her upbringing and how volunteerism has been an important part of her life since a young age. She then spoke to the group about Breast and Ovarian cancer and gave us information regarding prevention and ways to educate ourselves.
