Chapter Chatter: Sacramento Chapter Honors Unaccompanied Veterans

The Sacramento Chapter participated in the Unaccompanied Veterans Service on July 10, 2019, held quarterly at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery to honor veterans interred the previous quarter who did not receive individual memorial services at the Cemetery.  Some of these veterans had no next-of-kin.

The service includes an invocation, American Legion Final Farewell, reading of the names with bell tolls, rifle volleys, taps, and presentation of the American flag.  Sacramento Daughters were humbled by the request to participate in the ceremony by reading aloud names of the deceased, their service branch, and date of service.

Members of the American Legion, Patriot Guard Riders, Gold Star Mothers, and the community also regularly attend to participate in Unaccompanied Veterans services.

The Sacramento Chapter began performing this chapter service activity in 2018.
