Chapter Chatter: Patience Wright Chapter Recognizes DAR Good Citizen and Community Service Award Winners

Patience Wright chapter ended the DAR year at the May 18, 2019 annual meeting, luncheon, and raffle, which was held at historic El Adobe de Capistrano Restaurant in San Juan Capistrano. The chapter was honored Lillian Leslie, CSSDAR Recording Secretary, attended, along with many members and guests.

The chapter presented the DAR Good Citizen Award to a Laguna Beach High School Senior, and a Community Service Award to an outstanding individual from Laguna Beach. The DAR Good Citizen winner received a Certificate, pin, and card; and a financial award will be sent directly to the University of Chicago, which she will begin attending in September, focusing on Political Science and ROTC.

The Community Service Award recipient, Sandi Werthe, was honored for her many years of community service to the Laguna Beach community through various organizations, especially with The Laguna Beach Patriots Day Parade, which was co-founded by Patience Wright Chapter 53 years ago in 1966. The Community Service Award winner has served on the parade committee since 1976, and is the longest-serving volunteer in the parade’s history. It was reported in 2018 that, “The parade simply would not happen without Sandi.” Today, Sandi serves as Treasurer, Entry Chair and Program Chair, for the Laguna Beach parade, popular throughout the area and drawing crowds every year. A delicious lunch and 27 outstanding raffle baskets rounded out the successful final meeting of the year.
