Chapter Chatter: San Fernando Valley Chapter Celebrates Centennial Anniversary

Celebrating 100 years of service in our community, the San Fernando Valley Chapter gathered on October 20, 2018 across the street from the San Fernando Mission at the Brand Park Community Center. Our chapter has a history at this location of planting trees for special commemorations, so we felt this was the place to be.

Our event began when the Kennedy High School Navy JROTC presented the colors.  Our dear friend Jimmy Weldon (a 95-year-old WWII Veteran and a “Champion For America”), recited a special “I am your flag” speech then led us in the Pledge and National Anthem. Our special guests included the California State Regent, Adele
Lancaster and four of her officers, our District Director, several Chapter Regents and five of our honored past Chapter Regents.  Each of Our Chapter Regents, were recognized with certificates and corsages.

We had a special Bell Ringing performance, which also honored four chapter members who passed this year.  We had a special WWI display honoring family members who served during the “Great War”.  We had displays of our
historical scrapbooks, photo albums, and the first original yearbook.  One member made special patriotic bracelets and each guest had a bell at his or her place.

After lunch, our Historian presented a slideshow and gave highlights of chapter events. Then the eighty celebrants shared in a special celebration cake made in honor of this event, as we continued celebrating
“God, Home and Country”.
