Chapter Chatter: Vietnam Veterans Honored by La Puerta de Oro – San Francisco Chapter

La Puerta de Oro-San Francisco chapter members were honored to recognize eleven Vietnam Veterans with the DAR Certificate and Recognition pin for their service this July at the Golden Gate Park Senior Center in San Francisco.  Over 150 people were in attendance at this moving event. Each of the eleven veterans came forward and received his pin and DAR certificate honoring his Valor, Service and Sacrifice during the war.  The veterans represented many branches of service demonstrating the wide participation and commitment of these men.

Following the moving ceremony, all in attendance enjoyed the bountiful refreshments brought by our chapter members. The event was organized by Honorary Chapter Regent Carolyn Patrick, First Vice Regent Annette Litle and Chaplain Jane Perry.

Notable to Daughters in attendance was the gratitude shown by the recipients of this recognition.  Upon their return home from the war there were no parades or other thanks given to these soldiers and sailors so this ceremony, done with such dignity and sincerity, was much appreciated by them.  It was our honor to recognize these brave soldiers.
