Chapter Chatter: Santa Clara Chapter Hosts Second Annual Tea

On April 21, 2018, the Santa Clara Chapter held their Second Annual Tea with proceeds going to the Homeless Veterans Emergency Housing Facility.

This year there were eleven tables, with each hostess choosing a theme from the “special occasions” list.  These included Easter, New Year’s Eve, Mother’s Day, Wedding, Birthday Party, Halloween, Thanksgiving, 4th of July, Valentine’s Day, Christmas, and St. Patrick’s Day – fittingly hosted by Sue Fitz’patrick’ of the Los Gatos Chapter.  Hostesses were encouraged to dress the part for their theme, garnering extra points, and the competition was on!  There were pilgrims and Indians, leprechauns, gorgeous fascinators at the wedding table, Christmas elves, witches, and flappers representing the New Year’s Eve table – circa 1926 – the year the chapter was formed.

A lovely team of Girl Scouts acted as judges and servers, responding each time the ‘tea bell’ was rung. They served tea, scones with clotted cream, lemon curd, finger sandwiches, skewered fruit, and amazing homemade desserts – all provided by attendees.

Regent Karri Sieler provided the entertainment including a quiz on DAR history, three rounds of bingo, and a video highlighting the chapter achievments.

After dessert the winners were announced: Grand prize to Kim Guzman’s New Year’s Eve table, second place to Ginny Schlomann’s Halloween table and Bonnie Wagner’s Christmas table took third place.

One of  Santa Clara Chapter’s most successful events, Daughters can’t wait to see what next year’s committee’s theme will be.
