State Regent’s Message – April/May 2018

Dear Daughters,

This regent is delighted that so many of you were with us at our 110th State Conference in Irvine!  What a fun time we all had!  Congratulations to a splendid new slate of officers under the leadership of Adele Lancaster, State Regent-Elect, who will lead us for the next two years!  Adele and Susan Broderick, State Vice Regent-Elect, will be sworn in on Sunday, June 24th and this State Regent will be sworn in as Honorary State Regent.  (Oh my!)  I’m hoping that many of you will be in attendance for Congress and for the California Congressional Tea on Tuesday, June 19th, which is always a festive way to kick off Continental Congress.  See the California website for more information.

Special DAR honorees at Conference included Jennifer Garvin, Outstanding Junior Member; Nancy Huey, Outstanding Service to Veterans (Member); Linda Mustion, Outstanding State DAR Member (OSM), honoring & thanking Vietnam Veterans; and Alice Densmore, Outstanding Volunteer Genealogist. Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the MOP (Mother of a Page), Christina Ramos and this Regent were named MOPS at this 110th Conference. The MOP is a person who is recognized for giving exceptional support to our California Pages and is awarded a highly decorated mop which she must carry with her for the duration of the Conference.  All in great fun!!

Please save the dates of May 5th for Northern “Meet the New Officers” Spring Council in Rancho Cordova and May 19th for Southern Spring Council in Irvine. You’ll want to be there to hear about their wonderful plans for 2018-2020! Another highlight on those days is the installation of your new District officers—come and support  them!!   Information is posted on the state website.

Plans are humming to place a flagpole and marker at the historic Manzanar, site of one of the major Japanese Internment Camps during World War II. This is tentatively planned for Memorial Day—please watch the announcements for final details.

This is that time of year when you each have an opportunity to say your “YES” to your chapter in service to DAR and your community.  Please, if that telephone call comes to you asking for your unique talents, consider your answer carefully!  Remember why you’re a member. We need your YES!!
