Chapter Chatter: El Dorado Chapter Presents Community Service Award

On September 13, 2017, Virginia DeGregory the Community Service Award Chair for the El Dorado Chapter presented Davey “Doc” Wiser the DAR Community Service Award for his love of the history of the old west as evidenced by his many years of volunteerism and his involvement in historical preservation by performing historical reenactments.

Doc Wiser for over 25 years has brought the old west to residents and visitors by giving free stagecoach rides asking nothing more than a smile.  He takes the time to tell stories especially to children about his Wiser Overland Stage Line and life in the Wild West.  His involvement in historical reenactments includes almost 40 years of driving his 1890 doctor’s buggy, complete with his doctor’s bag, in the Highway 50 Wagon Train event from Stateline, Nevada to Placerville.  As well, for over 30 years he could be found with his beloved horse riding a segment of the annual Pony Express re-ride from Sacramento to St. Joseph, Missouri.
