Chapter Chatter: John Greenleaf Whittier Chapter Recognizes Community Service Award Winners

At its August meeting the John Greenleaf Whittier Chapter honored Theola and Norm Kirschenbaum for winning the Whittier Community Service Award.  They have advocated for the youth of Whittier and surrounding cities for many years.

Theola began volunteering in the local grade schools and was voted Volunteer of the Year by the Whittier City School District for her many hours of teaching.  She has also been recognized for her teaching in the Teen Mom Program at Montebello High School.  She has served on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Whittier for the past 17 years, including two terms as President.

Norm’s career in education included being superintendent of several area school districts, including Hacienda Heights, La Puente, Montebello and Charter Oaks Unified.  He was named Superintendent of the Year in 2010.  He served as the President of the Whittier Library Board of Directors.  He was also a member of the Whittier Chamber of Commerce.

Theola acknowledges the active support that her husband has provided in her community service.  Together they have received the prestigious Lee Owens Award from the Boys and Girls Club and the Good Scout Award from the Rio Hondo District of the Boy Scouts of America.
