Announcement: Congratulations to our two Helen Pouch Memorial Fund Grant Winners!

The Inaugural Helen Pouch Memorial Classroom Grant was a huge success for California! The Junior Membership Committee is excited to announce that our state has two winners!  Not all states submitted an award winner and preference was given to states that were geographically closest to the non-awarding state. Congratulations to Paul Reyburn, submitted by the Point Vicente Chapter, and Nancy Wear, submitted by the Rancho Purisima Chapter.

The grant awards $500 per state to an outstanding teacher where funds are to be used for supplies and educational resources to help further the educational goals of the DAR.

Mr. Reyburn will be using his funds to purchase plants and air filtration kits for a project to measure air quality. Ms. Wear will buy 35 copies of George Washington’s Socks, plants for colonial gardens, and recording equipment for student TED talks.

Teachers will receive their checks in August and will be recognized at the Fall Councils in September. In addition, the National Junior Membership Facebook page will highlight each teacher in the coming months.

Congratulations to Mr. Reyburn and Ms. Wear!
