Chapter Chatter: El Redondo Chapter Celebrates 70 Years

El Redondo Chapter celebrated its 70th anniversary at the June 3 Installation Luncheon meeting held at a restaurant in Redondo Beach.  The chapter was formed May 19, 1947 with 25 charter members.  It was the 103rd chapter formed in California.  The organizing regent was Margaret McDonnell Mavity.  Forty women have held the position since, including Regent Elisabeth Collier, now serving a second, non-consecutive term.

The El Redondo Chapter has been active in many aspects with the South Bay communities including ongoing support and interaction with veterans programs, Native American projects, JROTC programs, and scholarship/good citizenship recognition of local outstanding high school seniors.  At this anniversary meeting two outstanding young women were each recognized with $1,000 scholarships.  In 1976 the Chapter received the Freedom Foundation of Valley Forge for outstanding community programs.  Past regents were invited to attend and each was invited to speak of any special activities during her tenure.

Pictured (seated L-R)  Barbara Spencer, Beth Collier, Donna Grogan, Frances Boothe, and Gene Hassan; (standing L-R) Nancy Connell, Carolyn Bushnell, Mary Haag, Sue Ann Harding, and Fran Bock.  Unable to attend and missed were Patricia Hein, Albertine Bellows, Sandy Bourassa, and Nancy Guenther.
