Chapter Chatter: Alta Mira Chapter Celebrates 100th Anniversary

Alta Mira Chapter of Lindsay, California celebrated it’s 100th anniversary on Saturday February 18, 2017. The luncheon event was held at River Island Country Club in Springville. A Reader’s theater was presented telling the history of the chapter. The “Women in American History “award was presented. Club scrapbooks and memorabilia were displayed. Proclamations from the City of Lindsay, City of Porterville and Tulare County were presented. Guests included Honorary President General and Honorary California State Regent Mrs. Linda Gist Calvin, other state officers and regents from local chapters.

Mrs. Viola Frisbee, a member of the DAR moved to Lindsay and set about to establish a local chapter. On November 25, 1916, an organizational meeting of 12 members was held. On February 24, 1917, the chapter charter was issued. The ladies named their chapter Alta Mira to reflect the long view of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range that could be seen from their meeting room.
