Announcement: Outstanding Teacher of American History Contest Submission Deadline November 15

Chapter Regents and Historians, it is already time to start your candidate sponsorship for the Outstanding Teacher of American History Contest. Attendees at the March 2016 State Conference were delighted to meet Mrs. Karyn Helfrich Holland from Bishop Union High School. Mrs. Helfrich Holland was sponsored by Palisade Glacier Chapter (Bishop). She was overwhelmed at our society’s dedication to the preservation of American History, and by the attention she received as our state winner.

This state officer encourages your chapter to provide the same wonderful experience to another deserving teacher of American History or Government/Civics. Your chapter can assist a worthy teaching professional to complete a nomination packet. Forms and directions are located in the National Information Packet (NIP) on the NSDAR website. There is also a link to the forms and instructions on the NSDAR website, “Executive Offices – Historian General.”

The time to start approaching your local middle schools and high schools is early August when teachers and administrators return to their campuses to prepare for the coming year. Complete packets must be in the hands of this officer by November 15, 2016. Incomplete packets or late packets will not be accepted. Please contact this officer with your questions.

Let us demonstrate our dedication to excellence in education by recognizing those who give their very best to the leaders of tomorrow.
