Chapter Chatter: Center of the Valley Chapter Computerize Local Cemetery Records

libraryworkphotojuly2016As a community service/historic preservation project, members of Center of the Valley Chapter in Valley Center, recently began computerizing Valley Center Cemetery’s burial records, dating back to approximately 1843. To date, upwards of 1200 records have been entered into spreadsheets. It is unknown how many people are buried in the cemetery, but it’s been suggested there could be as many as 3500. Once all the burial records have been computerized, chapter members will photograph the headstones in the cemetery. When complete, the information will be uploaded to Find-A-Grave. The project is expected to take several months. As a follow-on project, chapter members will update spreadsheets and Find-A-Grave on a quarterly basis.
