Chapter Chatter: Gaspar de Portola Participates in 4th Of July Parade

IMG_1924Members and family of the Gaspar de Portola Chapter from Stanford, California participated in the Redwood City 4th of July parade for the fourth year in a row. This year’s parade float theme was ‘Our Heritage is the Bridge to Our Past’. Members spent many hours building and decorating the large bridge which was the focal point of the float. A large banner displaying the DAR symbol and chapter name as well as a two baton twirlers preceded the float. The parade entry rounded out with members walking in period costume. The entry won the overall parade ‘American Heritage’ theme award, as well as third place amateur float. This 4th of July parade is the largest in Northern California and thousands of people line the streets to watch. What a great way to promote the Daughters of the American Revolution organization!
