Chapter Chatter: Volunteer Group of the Year Awarded to Gold Trail Chapter

Gold Trail May 2016Volunteer Services at the Veterans Home of California, Yountville, has awarded their Volunteer Group of the Year to the Gold Trail Chapter, NSDAR. Led by Gold Trail Daughter Carol Brush, the chapter ‘adopted’ Johnson House Residential Home at the Yountville facility almost five years ago. Together the chapter and veterans have become extended family.

We celebrate Constitution Week, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving & Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Memorial Day with BBQ’s and festivities. At each gathering a drawing is held for a handmade patriotic quilt. The plan is to have each of the 52 residents ‘win’ their own quilt made by a dear friend of Gold Trail’s, Janie Brant. A memorial bench to Johnson House vets, who we’ve lost, was dedicated this past February. It’s become a favored gathering spot for conversation and views into the adjoining redwood grove. Gold Trail Chapter received the award, but could not have even been considered without the passionate leadership of our Veterans Services Committee Chair Carol Brush.
