State Regent’s Message: May 2016

Carole-FrameDear California Daughters,

For your State Regent, May will once again be a month filled with plans of extensive travel.

I just returned from the Tennessee Society’s State Conference in Franklin, TN, at the invitation of State Regent Susan Thomas. We were treated to a visit to the James K. Polk Ancestral Home in Columbia, TN. It was a reminder of all that he did during his presidency—expanded our borders to the Pacific Ocean, added three states to the Union, started the Naval Academy, and issued the first postage stamp, to name a few.

By the time this is posted, the La Puerta De Oro-San Francisco Chapter will have celebrated its 125th anniversary. Sequoia Chapter was the first chapter organized in California, the sixth in the country. It later merged with La Puerta De Oro and San Francisco Chapters. What a wonderful part of this year’s celebration of 125 years of CSSDAR!

The State Board and the State Officers-elect look forward to the southern meeting at the Anaheim Marriott in Anaheim and the northern meeting at the Sacramento Marriott Rancho Cordova in Rancho Cordova. Each should be a lovely day with time to visit and hear the plans of the new Moncrieff Administration. The new District officers will be installed at their respective Council’s luncheon.

In mid-May, plans will take me to KDS DAR School in Alabama and Tamassee DAR School in South Carolina. There I will be honored to present over 40 awards and scholarships from California to graduates on KDS Awards Day. Then on to visit “our girls” at the California Pouch Cottage. At Tamassee I hope to dedicate our gift to the playground made possible by your generous contributions to the Monkey Business fund-raiser.

Memorial Day weekend will take me home to Indiana to visit with family and attend the Indianapolis 500. If you watch it on television, look for me—I’ll wave!

We are part of a dynamic service organization. Be proud of all we do to carry out the mission of DAR.

Let’s continue to Celebrate America!
Celebrate 125 Years of the California Society!
And Celebrate Service…to God, Home, and Country
