The Don José de Ortega Chapter honored the memory of one of its past regents during the April 2-3 American Cancer Society’s 24-hour Relay for Life held at California State University Northridge.  “Team Donna” walked the course in memory of Past Regent Donna Chellew, who lost her battle with cancer in January.

Members also honored the memory, as well as successful fights against the disease, of chapter members, relatives, and friends.  The Don José de Ortega team was named a “Rising Star” by the event sponsor, after raising $1,135 to fight cancer, making them the #3 fundraising team for the event at this, the  chapter’s first Relay for Life.  In addition to participating in the walk and collecting donations, several luminaria were purchased, each inscribed with the name of a loved one.  Luminarias were lit and ringed the track after sunset — a beautiful time to walk and share memories.
