The Antelope Valley Chapter recently held their February Awards luncheon to honor local school students. It is an honor and privilege to recognize these outstanding students in our community for their hard work Eileen Roberts, Regent says.
Three Good Citizen Awards were presented to students with the following qualities: dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. Winners are Michael Mayes, Desert Christian High School (Chapter Grand winner), Vanessa Perez, Antelope Valley High School and Andrea Berreondo, Knight High School.
The American History Essay Contest is open to 5th to 8th graders who attend public, private, parochial school, or are home schooled. The winners were 6th Grade; Nicholas Hartz, Desert Christian Middle School, 7th Grade; Jasmine Osiris Torres, Sacred Heart School and 8th Grade; Maxwell Alexander Von Tungeln, Desert Christian Middle School. All three Chapter winners went on to win at the District XV level. Nicholas Hartz won at the state level as well. Mayor Jim Ledford of Palmdale and Sandra Orozco District XV American History Essay DAR Chair also presented awards to the group with Ramona McCaslin AV Chapter Chair. Two school principals, two teachers, the winner’s families and AVDAR chapter members enjoyed a luncheon immediately following the ceremony.
