Remembering the American Revolution

Stocking, mid 1800s, probably Pennsylvania, wool. Sarah Benjamin owned this stocking. Like other women who followed the army during the Revolution, she accompanied her soldier husband. Throughout 1780 and 1781, she baked and sewed for the troops and once served as a sentinel.

Daughters, I hope you are enjoying the current DAR MUSEUM Exhibit.  On display are more than 100 historical objects dating to the first three generations of American independence that maintain a tie to the American Revolutionary War.

The exhibition explores how people following the fight for independence preserved, made, and bought items to retain a connection to the war. The exhibit explores how the memory of the Revolution is represented in the Colonial Revival movement and the growth of lineage societies. Learn about the American Revolution in a whole new light!
