Chapter Chatter: Gaspar de Portola Chapter & Santa Lucia Chapter Celebrate NSDAR Day of Service

Gaspar De Portola Oct 2015Gaspar de Portola members (Stanford, CA) are proud to announce we celebrated 125 years of service this month by making baby blankets. The sweet, soft, cuddly blankets were presented to Home & Hope, an organization that provides a safe haven for homeless families. They also help the families establish long-term self sufficiency. Home & Hope will distribute the blankets to their families with infants. We are more than an lineage society. We are today’s DAR, making an impact in our community!

To honor NSDAR’s 125th anniversary and Day of Service on October 11th, the Santa Lucia Chapter (Salinas) adopted a very special project! The chapter made 60 ditty bags full of useful items for veterans under the care of the Veterans’ Transition Center in Marina, CA.  Several members joined together to make the sturdy drawstring ditty bags. Other members crocheted hats. Some members made monetary donations or shopped for socks, hats, and toiletries. Some members visited stores, hotels, and dentist offices to ask for donations. After the chapter’s meeting on October 10th members stayed to stuff the bags, assembly-line style, with all the goodies collected and made. According to one member, “It’s a wonderful feeling to give to our veterans in need, and we were thrilled to join with the thousands of DAR members around the world in participating in serving our community this month.”
