Quilts of Valor is a National Nonprofit Organization whose mission is to Cover All Military Men and Women… those touched by the War on Terror who have served active duty since 9/11/2001. The wounded and military service men and women from Kern County will receive priority to receive a Quilt of Valor. These quilts are sewn by volunteers, completing the different steps in making a complete quilt.

Mary Ann Claxton, Co-chair for Bakersfield Chapter’s National Defense Committee, presented an opportunity for chapter members to help create a quilt for Quilts of Valor.  At the beginning of the meeting year members took home a ‘kit’ of pre-cut fabric, stitching them together to create beautiful patterns.  When the squares were finished Mary Ann put the pieces together creating the top. Others from other organizations did the finishing work. The pictured quilt will be presented to a veteran at the chapters’ December DAR/SAR Christmas luncheon.
