State Regent’s Message: May 2015

Carole-FrameDear California Daughters,

For your State Regent, May is a month of extensive travel.

I just returned from the Pennsylvania State Society’s State Conference, at the invitation of State Regent Bobbi McMullen. It was held in Allentown. We visited the oldest home there, Trout Hall, built between 1768 and 1770 that now is a museum. The Memorial Service was held in Zion Reformed Church, also known as the “Liberty Bell Church.” In 1777, as Philadelphia prepared to fall to the British, patriots smuggled the Liberty Bell to Allentown, where it was hidden under the floor boards of the church to prevent it being melted down to make cannon.

Next is a visit to the Georgia State Conference at the invitation of State Regent Bea Fischer. It will be the opportunity to visit Stone Mountain again and to visit with all the Georgia Daughters.

Mid-May will take me to KDS DAR School in Alabama and Tamassee DAR School in South Carolina. It will be my privilege to present over 40 awards and scholarships from California to graduates on KDS Awards Day and enjoy the warm southern hospitality of the Alabama Daughters. Then it will be on to Tamassee where we will check in on “our girls” now housed in the California Pouch Cottage. The pajama party that is planned with them should be fun!

Memorial Day weekend will take me home to Indiana to visit with family and attend the Indianapolis 500. If you watch it on television, look for me—I’ll wave!

On May 30th plan to attend the spring Open House at our State Headquarters in Glendora where you can enjoy a time under the oak trees.

This is a month that provides astounding experiences to see the many ways that we all work to carry out the mission of the Daughters of the American Revolution: historic preservation, education, and patriotic activities. Be proud that you are a part of such a dynamic service organization!

Let’s continue to Celebrate America! and Celebrate Service…to God, Home, and Country
