This morning 25 Daughters from District XIV joined District Director Jeanette Shiel and Celebrate America! State Chair Jennifer Smith in a ribbon tying ceremony on the flight deck of the USS Midway. The Midway’s “Operation Remembrance” commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and honors the 58,220 Americans who lost their lives in service. The ribbons will remain on display as the backdrop to “The Wall That Heals”, which arrives on the Midway on April 25 and is a 200-foot replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC.

District XIV Daughters tied on over 600 yellow and black ribbons symbolizing those who lost their lives or were prisoners of war. Participating chapters included Leticia-Cox Shelby, Linares, Rancho Buena Vista, Rincon Del Diablo, San Diego and Santa Margarita. Each Daughter in attendance received a special commemorative NSDAR button for celebrating 125 years of service! It was a beautiful morning and heartfelt way to celebrate the service of our Vietnam veterans.
