State Regent’s Message: January 2015

Carole-FrameDear California Daughters,

The decorations are stored; the suitcases, unpacked. The 2014 calendar is filed away; 2015 is fresh. Now, with the New Year, it is time to get back to the details of DAR!

Soon, the Call to Conference for the 107th State Conference, and the registration form, will be available online. An announcement will go out when it has been posted. President General Lynn Forney Young will be making her visit as we kick off NSDAR’s 125th anniversary celebration.

In the meantime, electronic filing of Chapter Master Report, the merging of Chapter Achievement and the Master Questionnaire, must be completed before February 1. In addition, check the Calendar on the Members’ Website for the submissions that are due by January 15. And, remember that the submission of your memoirs from the Vietnam era needs to be to the State Historian by January 31. It’s not too late. I am still working on mine.

The State Parliamentarian has been tasked with reviewing the bylaws of all chapters. As you know, government agencies are closely monitoring non-profit organizations. Your Society has paid close attention to ensure that chapters are in compliance with all the changes imposed. That compliance includes chapter bylaws. Now it is time to make sure that bylaws are up-to-date. Too often organizations operate under antiquated bylaws, patched together over time, that are no longer appropriate for how they operate. Such out-of-date bylaws will not protect them in the event of a problem. Consequently, chapters are requested to adopt the Model for Chapter Bylaws provided by NSDAR. The model will provide flexibility for changes in governance that may occur in the future.

So—in 2015, Celebrate America! Remember to record your volunteer hours!
And Celebrate Service…to God, Home, and Country!
