Tamassee DAR School – January 2014

We hope your holidays were the best ever and that you are looking forward to a wonderful 2014.  It has been fairly quiet around campus with all but 23 of our 50 children gone until Sunday evening.  We hope those who are not with us today are having a safe and wonderful holiday with friends and loved ones.   The twenty-three who have remained on campus have enjoyed their holiday and are today in Atlanta visiting the Georgia Aquarium and Coke factory as a part of the Angel Tree experience.

The Christmas play entitled “Have you seen Christmas” was a wonderful program and fun for those who not only participated, but for those in attendance.  Friends, staff, supporters, and family members watched the final performance together and then joined together in the Dining Hall for refreshments.   It was a warm holiday event.    The local Lions Club continued a 28 year long tradition of dining with the students one evening and then giving each child a bag of fresh fruits, nuts and candy.  The Missouri Groves boys had a great time making gingerbread houses and then gobbling them down!  For many of the boys, this was their first time making the houses.   The Illinois girls had a wonderful time skating at the open air ice rink in Greenville.   It was so much fun to watch them slip and slide around the ice and hear them giggle and laugh as the Christmas lights danced off of the glassy surface.   Mrs. Claus was even there to give them a holiday hug!

The joy on the faces of all the students as they opened their gifts was priceless.   Thank you to everyone who provided these smiles for the staff members in attendance to see.

As we prepare to return to the routine, we look forward to 2014 and are starting plans for Awards Day when we will celebrate the academic achievements of the students and watch five seniors graduate as the Class of 2014.  We hope you will watch the website for additional details and plan on joining us.

Thank you for a wonderful holiday season and Happy 2014!

For the children,

Connie
