CALIFORNIA DAR CHORUS CELEBRATES 25 YEARS!

Upon moving to Novato, California in 1978, and becoming a member of the El Marinero DAR Chapter, Rebecca Viebrock was elected as a delegate to the 1979 State Conference.  In time, she was privileged to share her love of music by performing or by assisting in getting musicians to entertain for Opening Night and the banquet evening.

When rising costs of honoraria for musicians became an issue, in 1988 the idea was formulated to invite our DAR members to form a State DAR Chorus.  Subsequently, with the approval of State Regent, Johna Strayer, the California Chorus came to fruition. The first performance was at the 1989 State Conference.

Due to the success of the chorus, instrumentalists were invited to participate and enhance performances. In 1998 the flute ensemble debuted with eight flutists, one of whom is our current State Regent Debbie Jamison.

Over the years, members and guests have been entertained by our beautiful debutantes and other C.A.R. members.  Currently, the chorus is assisted by two HODARs, Paul Volker and Dr. Harry Schned.

The State Chorus pin was designed by our California Chorus members, and this director is proud to wear the engraved #1 pin.

The California DAR Chorus and Flute Ensemble invites any member who loves music, performing, and camaraderie, to come share our love for bee-u-ti-ful music by participating in the chorus and/or ensemble, which also includes any C instrument (such as violin).  We look forward to State Conference, March 6-9, 2014 — the 25th California DAR Chorus Anniversary Performance!

Participation and performance details can be found on the State committee web page or by contacting Director, Rebecca Viebrock (415-897-6753). We hope you will join us in 2014!
