DAR PROJECT PATRIOT COMMITTEE

California Daughters, if you have an ideas about the long-term future of our committee and how the NSDAR can best serve active duty military with the pending re-deployment of forces in Afghanistan, please share your thoughts with the state chair.

The Congress schedule is changing significantly based on survey results.  National Defense Night will be on Saturday night, with the National Defense, DAR Service for Veterans, and DAR Project Patriot Committees combining forces on Friday for a “Patriotism Luncheon.”  A Patriotism Forum tentatively scheduled for Thursday.

Monetary donations to the DAR Project Patriot Fund through the Development Office should be made using Form Dev-1003. The chapter gets credit for Chapter Achievement if it meets the minimum donation. The National committee can use the funds to “buy in bulk” and in many instances get free or extremely reduced shipping costs.

Landstuhl Medical Center has provided their quarterly wish list available on the National committee web page. You can also view suggestions for deployed care packages and items for women.

EXCITING NEWS!!  Our National chairman was contacted by Fort Polk, Louisiana’s 4th Brigade of the 10th Mountain Division Family Services Coordinator recently, and we have a great new short-term project to help our service members! The brigade is currently in Afghanistan, and she has requested help in furnishing bedding for the single soldiers of the brigade so that upon return their first few nights back in the barracks they have new sheets, etc.! The contact at Fort Polk will let us know when they have enough bedding for the different units. Chapters can include pillows, twin size sheets, and any other “welcome home” items they care to send.  Be advised some soldiers may not come home until December, so do not send any perishable goods.   There are no women in the unit.

Southwest Division: Unit is 3-89 Calvary Battalion.   Contact is:  Debbie De Ore

Please contact the state chair if you have any issues or questions. We look forward to chapters participating in this patriotic endeavor. If this goes well, there may be other units needing the same support.
