A Walk On The Wildside

Lillian Leslie, regent of Linares Chapter and a docent at the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve arranged for a tour for State Regent Debra Jamison. Accompanying Lil and Debbie were Linares members Jennifer Smith, Linda Knoebel, Paula-Jo Cahoon with hubby John, Associate member Wanda Prosser, regent of the Santa Margarita Chapter, and Adele Lancaster, State Historian and Santa Margarita Chapter member. The reserve is a 915 acre coastal wetland consisting of six plant communities, coastal strand, both salt and freshwater marshes, riparian, as well as coastal sage scrub and mixed chaparral. This wetland is a flyway for about 40% of all North American bird species. The Nature Center, a “green building,” hosts curriculum-based environmental outdoor classrooms for local schools. It was a day for our state regent to soak up some peace and wind down a bit.
