NSDAR DUES INCREASE VOTED AT CONTINENTAL CONGRESS – EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY

As approved at the 122nd Continental Congress and effective JUNE 20, 2013, NSDAR has raised the annual National dues. Dues increases can be difficult for chapter treasurers to handle as they deal with comments and complaints from members. Key information for all chapter officers to pass along to the members is it has been nine years since the last National dues increase. The new amount is consistent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) beginning in 2004, equates to only a 58 cents per month increase.

Effective immediately, NSDAR Annual National Dues for a member of a chapter will be $37 per year, and NSDAR annual national dues for a member-at-large will be $52. This increase will affect both new applications and your current annual dues collection.

For new membership applications “postmarked” no later than July 31, the dues amount remains at $30 (or $45 for a member-at-large). New applications postmarked AFTER July 31 will be $37; $52 for a member-at-large.

The 2014 annual dues process will be at $37 per member. If your chapter has already collected dues at $30, the difference must be collected and the full $37 per member submitted with the dues invoice before the December 1 deadline. Submitting an insufficient amount with the invoice may result in a chapter’s dues to be considered late if NSDAR does not receive the total balance before the deadline.

If your chapter has already collected all of its dues at the $30 rate, it must do one of two things to ensure that the $37 amount is collected by the December 1 deadline:

1. Email or mail a second dues notice to members advising them of the vote at Congress to increase dues and asking members to send an additional $7; OR

2. Pay the remaining $7 per member from the chapter treasury if the chapter members approve and if funds are available. Because this amount has most likely not been included in chapter budgets for 2013-2014, your members will need to vote in order for this to be paid from the chapter treasury.
