GREAT STATE EVENTS COMING THIS SPRING!

By now, we hope you have visited the “Buzz” on the main page of the CSSDAR Members’ website to check out all of the upcoming state events.

FIRST EVER HEADQUARTERS BARBEQUE! On April 27th, the Headquarters Administrative Committee invites members to attend an open house and barbeque at State Headquarters. The fun begins at 11:30 a.m. Lunch at noon. There will be docents available to give tours of the entire house, we will enjoy a catered BBQ on the patio that includes hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, watermelon, apple tarts, lemonade, and iced tea. Cost per person is $15. Don’t forget to come duded up in western wear. The HQAC will be giving awards for the three top costumes that day. And pardners, don’t be surprised if you see some country dancing going on at this event! The registration form is available on the “Buzz.”

CSSDAR GIFT PRESENTION TO UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, DAVIS The State Board is pleased to announce a celebration and gift presentation to be held at the UC Davis Bee Biology Lab located at One Bee Biology Road, Davis, California, on Friday, May 17th, at 2:00 p.m. Preparations for this event are in progress. We are expecting researcher Brian Johnson to speak at the event, along with Dr. Eric Mussen, and other notable staff members. Attendees will be able to visit the bee biology lab, the Haagen Daz Honey Bee Haven, and we are trying to arrange for small group visits to the experimental apiaries for those who wish to don bee veils and participate. This is a jeans, tee shirt, and comfortable shoes event. It will be held outdoors. Please remember these rules for hanging out with bees: do not wear perfume, do not eat bananas the day of the event, or wear black. Also, please keep hairspray and scented lotions to a minimum. Hats and long sleeves are recommended. Remember, bananas have the same scent as the bee pheromone that warns the hive of an impending attack. If you plan to attend, please send an email to Sally Holcombe (corresponding@californiadar.org), so we can make plans for seating and for a reception. The deadline for your RSVP is May 10.

We look forward to seeing many members at these special events, and we thank you for your support and participation!
