Dogs Really Can Be a Mans Best Friend

Charli,Carol,Wanda,Lesley,Sarge & Kiwi

The Santa Margarita Chapter was privileged to have two women from “Paws’itivity Teams” bring two service dogs to a meeting. Carol Davis and Charli King demonstrated, with 11 year old Golden Retriever Kiwi, and 8 month old Black Lab Sarge, how dogs are trained to assist mobility-limited persons in San Diego County to become more independent. Sarge was the primary dog for the demonstration. He picked up fallen money and credit cards, brought the phone to the trainer, took off the trainers shoe and sock, and unzipped her sweatshirt, and all the while the trainer was talking about the training process. After Paws’itivity trains and places the dogs they provide lifetime follow-up. Many of their dogs go to wounded military, both male and female. First Vice Regent Lesley Clifton arranged for this fabulous program, and the club approved having the dogs in the dining room. Kudos to all involved.
