Outstanding Teacher Honored

Adele, Teresa, and Wanda

Teresa Gerent, an American History teacher at Mission Vista High School in Oceanside, CA, was the nominee of the Santa Margarita Chapter for DAR Outstanding Teacher of American History. Teresa always wanted to be a teacher but reports that  she “was dyslexic, at a time when no one knew what that was.” “I was always at the “slow” table in class, hated history, and decided if that was what teaching was all about, I didn’t want any part of it,” stated Teresa. At age 35, she decided to pursue her dream, become a history teacher and teach it like she wanted to have been taught. She tries to instill in her students not only a love of history but a respect for the responsibilities of citizenship and community involvement. Regent, Wanda Prosser and chapter member and CSSDAR Historian, Adele Lancaster, were honored to present her with a certificate, check, book, and DAR Victorian cup.
