VIS – February 2013

Members’ Website

Having trouble logging in or out? Chances are one of two things has happened:

1. You typed in “www.members.californiadar.org” instead of just “members.californiadar.org”. There’s no need to use the www for this website and, in fact, it doesn’t like when you do. So go to http://members.californiadar.org/ to access the CA members only website correctly.

2. You didn’t log off when you were finished the last time you visited the members’ website. Make sure to click on “log off” when you’re finished with the site. If you simply close your browser, the system gets confused and will give you problems logging in the next time you come back. In order to fix it, clear your cache and your cookies and then try logging in again. It should work just fine.

The Clarion

Please make sure to visit the Clarion often to see the latest updates or, even easier, sign up for weekly updates that will be delivered directly to your inbox. Remember that the Clarion is not password protected so any member can visit easily without logging in or out. Just go to (no www!): clarion.californiadar.org

Spam Email and Viruses

When you receive an email from someone you do not know, and it contains a link or an attachment, do NOT click on the link or open the attachment! This is the method of choice for hackers to disseminate viruses. By clicking on the link or opening the attachment, you launch the program that will install the virus on your computer. Sometimes these emails look very legit, and they may even be touting DAR information, but unless they come from a recognized source, just hit delete.

Importance of Software Updates

Every piece of software on your computer at this time has probably
been upgraded in some way to provide better features, problem area
(bug) fixes and possibly security enhancements. It’s important to keep
a lookout for new versions of your current software from time-to-time
so you can receive changes like these and improve your everyday
computing use. It generally takes only a few minutes, and most modern
programs have update systems that prompt you when new updates are
available, so it’s easy for any type of user. Follow the prompts and
you’ll be updated in no time.

It is also important to constantly update the anti-virus software on a computer because computers are regularly threatened by new viruses. The anti-virus updates contain the latest files needed to combat new viruses and protect your computer.
