Pt. Vicente Fall Chapter Meetings

The Point Vicente chapter met in October to learn about the “History and Conservation of the Torrance Madrona Marsh Preserve.” The last vernal marsh in Los Angeles County, the Madrona Marsh has many types of life to view: birds, insects, small mammals, and reptiles. Tracy Drake, Nature Center Manager, spoke eloquently about the types of preservation taking place at Madrona to enhance and preserve this fragile ecosystem.

In November Point Vicente chapter members and guests met to hear Mike George from the Torrance Historical Society and Reference Librarian at the Torrance Library speak about “Torrance History from the Most Successful Squatter in California History to WWII.” Both fun and informative, George entertained members with the little known stories that made Torrance the successful town it is today.

The chapter included a pie party in which members were encouraged to bring their favorite pie. An all-American, red, white and blue pie won first place.
