Mission Membership – November 2012

An excited and enthusiastic group of about 45 registrars, membership team volunteers, volunteer genies, and lineage researchers gathered at State Headquarters in Glendora on October 27th for the 1st State Registrar’s Workshop, to learn about California plans for Membership Teams, Lineage Research, Volunteer Genealogists, Membership Referrals, and Registrar plans.  Surprises from the State Regent added to the day’s fun as well as great sharing among the various attendees. A Central California workshop is planned for November 13th in Fresno at the Fresno Library (come and enjoy the opportunity to also do genealogy research) and plans are now in place for a Northern California  workshop on February 23, in Elk Grove. Plan to come and learn, exchange ideas with your fellow membership teams and registrars, and have a great time. Just email this officer at moncrieff@gv.net, telling her that you’ll be joining us.  We’re anxious to have you there!

New news: A new chairmanship for California this term! Virginia Rood is stepping up to help Californians who would like to become DAR members, but for various reasons may not be able to join a chapter at this time—these ladies are prospective Members-at-Large. Just as our chapter registrars help prospectives with their application papers, Virginia is helping these prospectives complete their application to become a Member-at-Large of the National Society. Thank you, Virginia, for helping our Society to grow!

Membership Q & A:

1.   Question:  I just changed my Password on e-membership and then was unable to sign on. Why didn’t it work?

Answer:  When resetting your password on e-membership, you must wait at least 5 minutes before using the new one.

2.   Question: Must the Genealogical Education Program (GEP) courses be taken in order?

Answer : Yes. You must take Genealogical Education Program (GEP) courses in order because there are new, more current updates included in the GEP courses.

3.    Question: Can the “Build an App” tool be used for a long form only?

Answer:  Yes. Because the “Build An App” provides complete lineage for an application or supplemental application.  The short form is no longer accepted by NSDAR.
