Honey Bee High School Homecoming

The Honey Bee High School Homecoming Hop was hopping!! From scarf-draped “hippies” to poodle skirts and saddle oxfords to the beehive hairdos of the straight-laced high school faculty (aka CSSDAR State Board). Daughters in the north and south enjoyed the entire event! Both evenings featured a Honey Bee High “faculty” introductory skit, parade of beautifully decorated, very creative bee-themed floats, honey tasting from around the world, and rocking n’ rolling to favorite tunes of the 50’s and 60’s – provided by DJ Gary Starr, Gayle Mooney’s brother. Elvis Bee Presley arrive just in time to boogie down with any available Daughter… many were swooning and standing in line for a quick twirl with the “King.”

Congratulations to all HBHS float entrants. Several sweet prizes were awarded – jars of honey, of course! All received special certificates for their very creative floats and eager participation.

Northern Council float entries included: Anne Loucks, Eel River, El Toyon-Queen Bee’s Choice, Fresno-Yosemite, Jose Maria Amador-State Regent’s Choice, Merced River, Sacramento, Santa Clara-District Directors’ Choice, Sierra Amador, Turlock, Vineyard Trails, and Constitution Commemorative-Grand Marshall

Southern Council floats: DeAnza, El Redondo, John Greenleaf Whittier-State Regent’s Choice, Katuktu, Letitia Coxe Shelby-District Directors’ Choice, Linares, Los Cerritos, Malibu-Queen’s Choice, Mission Viejo, Mojave, Rancho Simi, Santa Margarita, and Constitution Commemorative-Grand Marshall

The highlight of each evening was the naming and crowning of the Honey Bee High School Homecoming Queen Bees – South: the very surprised HBHS Registrar of Students Miss Addie Venture (aka Bev Moncrieff.) At no time in the history of the high school had a faculty member been named homecoming queen bee! And in the North: Carole, gotta-love-her-poodle-skirt, Belcher was blown away when her selection was announced.  Her willing participation and infectious smile told everyone that she was having the time of her life!  Wasn’t everyone? Oh, you weren’t there? Too bad… you won’t want to miss out next time!
